When someone joins your referral program or gets referred, GrowSurf adds or updates their AWeber subscriber record and fills in 15 custom fields holding their referral link, referral counts, referrer details, and milestone progress. AWeber caps custom fields at 25 per list, so plan the list you point GrowSurf at before you connect — that is the part of this setup that is hard to undo. ## Integration Steps ### Pick the list before you connect AWeber allows 25 custom fields per list, and GrowSurf uses 15 of them. If the list you have in mind already carries 11 or more custom fields of your own, the sync has nowhere to write. Use a list with room, or clear fields you no longer need first. Deleting an AWeber custom field also deletes the data stored in it for every subscriber on that list, so do that clean-up deliberately rather than during setup. ### Connect AWeber from the integrations list Open **Program Editor > 4. Log in to AWeber and authorize GrowSurf. Then choose the AWeber account and the list you want kept in sync. ### Connect before you import participants The sync starts at the moment you connect. Anyone already in the program will not be pushed to AWeber retroactively — use the [existing-participant sync options](https://support.growsurf.com/article/385-how-can-i-sync-my-growsurf-participants-to-my-esp) if you have already imported. ### Know the fields, and why two of them look odd AWeber rejects custom fields containing the words “name” or “email”. If a participant did not arrive, their GrowSurf activity log records the reason; GrowSurf retries a failed add for seven days. ## Tips #### Budget your 25 custom fields GrowSurf takes 15. That leaves 10 for everything else you do on that list. A dedicated referral list avoids the squeeze entirely. #### Do not delete a GrowSurf field to free space Deleting it wipes that value for every subscriber, and the next sync recreates the field empty.
