Once GrowSurf syncs to your Campaign Monitor list, each subscriber’s referral link and progress are custom fields. Campaign Monitor resolves them with square-bracket tags, in campaign content and in subject lines.

Campaign Monitor also supports a fallback inside the tag, which is the cleanest way to keep a sentence readable for subscribers who have not referred anyone yet.

## Integration Steps

### Confirm the fields are populated

The Campaign Monitor integration card in GrowSurfCampaign Monitor lives in Program Editor > 4. Options > Integrations.

Open a synced subscriber in Campaign Monitor and check the GrowSurf fields before you build the campaign around them.

### Put the link above the fold

Use `[GrowSurfShareURL]` as the href and the visible text. A URL people can see is a URL they can paste.

### Use a fallback for counts

Campaign Monitor lets you supply a fallback inside the tag, so a subscriber with no referrals yet still reads a complete sentence instead of a gap.

### Personalize the subject line

Campaign Monitor lets you insert personalization into the subject line and the preview text, not just the body. “You are two referrals away” in the subject is visible before the email is opened.

## Tips

#### No spaces inside the brackets

`[GrowSurfShareURL]` resolves; the same name with spaces does not.

#### Fallbacks beat empty lines

A count of zero reads better than a missing number, and it keeps the layout from shifting.

#### Preview against a real subscriber

Campaign Monitor’s preview uses subscriber data. Pick one who has already synced.
