Once GrowSurf syncs into your Constant Contact list, each contact’s referral link and progress live in custom fields. One email then covers the entire list, with each reader seeing their own link.

The variables use a `custom.` prefix inside double square brackets. Copy them exactly; a near-miss renders as nothing at all.

## Integration Steps

### Check the fields are there

The Constant Contact integration card in GrowSurfConstant Contact lives in Program Editor > 4. Options > Integrations.

Open a synced contact and confirm the GrowSurf fields carry values before you build the email.

### Make the link visible

Use `[[custom.growsurf_share_url]]` as both the link target and the visible text. Readers copy what they can see.

### Write for someone with zero referrals

Most of your list has not referred anyone yet. Lead with the invitation, and treat `[[custom.growsurf_total_referral_count]]` as a bonus line rather than the headline.

### Point people at the portal when the email is not enough

A link to your Referral Portal gives people their full progress, leaderboard position, and rewards without you rebuilding any of it in email.

Replace `YOUR_PROGRAM_ID` with your GrowSurf Program ID, or use your custom Referral Portal domain.

## Tips

#### Keep the `custom.` prefix

It is part of the variable name, not a category label. Without it the variable resolves empty.

#### Milestone text is conditional

`[[custom.growsurf_next_milestone]]` is populated only on programs using milestone rewards with Next Milestone text set.

#### One action per email

Share the link or open the portal. Asking for both splits attention and lowers both.
